Тема: Виды жилья в Великобритании. Говорение

Класс: 10

Цель урока: развитие речевых умений и межкультурной компетенции  учащихся.

Образовательные задачи:

  • познакомить с пословицами и выяснить их актуальность;
  • развивать лексические навыки по теме.

Развивающие задачи:

  • развивать навыки говорения на основе полученной информации и собственного опыта;
  • развивать навыки чтения, навыки восприятия и понимания речи на слух,  языковую догадку, память, мышление, внимание;
  • развивать умение сравнивать, делать выводы, видеть особенности иноязычной культуры.

Воспитательные задачи:

  • содействовать воспитанию чувства ответственности и бережного отношения к дому, чувства толерантности к представителям другой культуры, их традициям, обычаям, образу жизни;
  • способствовать развитию культуры взаимоотношений при работе в группах.

Оборудование: видеозапись, презентация, карточки.

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент.

Т.: Good-morning, dear students! Glad to see you!  Are you fine today? What date is it today? Do you like today’s weather? Why/ why not? Is everybody present? Who is absent?

2. Сообщение темы и целей урока.

T.:  Look at the screen and guess the topic of our lesson. You're right. We’re going to speak about types of houses at the lesson and find out what houses are the best and why. We are going to find out the actuality of English proverbs and get to know about British homes. We'll compare our country and the UK. We'll also discuss advantages and disadvantages of living in a certain house.

T.: Let's start with practicing your pronunciation. Listen to the Tongue Twister.

She stood on the balcony, inexplicably mimicking him hiccupping, and amicably welcoming him in.

Have fun saying it as fast as you can.

T.: I want you to answer my questions.

What types of houses do you know?

Is there a lot of space in your house?

Do you think your house needs any renovation?

Would you like to be the owner of a mansion?

Do you have some privacy?                 

What types of houses do most people in Belarus live in?

What type of house do you live in? What rooms are there?

T.: I should say, our home is the most important thing in the world. It doesn’t really matter whether your house is large or small, whether it is of a modern or old design – it always remains the place you are most concerned about. I’m sure, that it’s not the size of the place… but the way you feel about it.

5. Активизация л. е. в устной речи.

T.: Let's get acquainted with English proverbs. Look at the screen. You can see the English proverbs but the words in them are mixed. Put them in the correct order and read the proverb.

T.: Who's ready? Go to the board. Thanks. Take your place.

T.: Which of the proverbs do you like best?

Ps: I like the proverb .....

T.: What do the proverbs show?

P1.: The proverbs show that home plays a great role in our life.

P2.: Home is very important in people's life.

P3.: It gives people a sense of stability, security and unity.

T.: What do the proverbs have in common?

P.: They have the word "home".

T.: Explain the meaning of the word "home".

P1.: In my opinion it means a country or some native town, city or village.

P2.: I think it means the place where I was born and where my parents and friends live.

P3.: I consider that home is a place we long for when we go to the camp or go abroad.

P4.: To my mind it also means a type of living.

T.: In the English language the words "home" and "house" are practically synonyms. But there's a difference between them. Look at the screen. You can see a snap which shows the difference. Men make houses, women make homes.

T.: What's the main difference?

P1.: So, home is where the heart is. It's a place in your mind. It's something abstract. House is concrete. It is a type of building.

Now, we'll do an exercise. Look at the screen, read the sentences  and fill in "home" or "house".

1.This is the ... that Jack built.  

2. How many rooms are there in your …?

3. What’s your … town? – Retchitsa.

4. What kind of a … have you got?

5. I’ll be … all day Tuesday.

6. I live in a beautiful three-bedroom … .

7. Tom dreamed about his ... .

6. Физкультминутка.

T: I see that you are a bit tired let’s have a rest. Work in two teams. The leader thinks of any household chores and mimes it in front of the class. The students from the other group try to guess asking the questions: Are you…moping the floor?

7. Развитие умений монологической речи.

T.:  Do types of living differ from country to country? We're going to watch the video on houses in Britain. Answer the following questions:

Where do most British people live?

Are houses different in shape and size?

How many rooms are there in Robinsons’ house?

Where do the Robinsons relax?

What can you see in the living-room?

What is the most important thing in the kitchen?

Where does Tom do his homework?

 Is Buckingham Palace the most famous home in Britain?

T.: Very good. Now imagine that this film was shot in our country what would you see?

T.: Thank you very much. It was really interesting. Now try to find the differences and the similarities between British and Belarusian ways of living. Let's compare the UK and our country. Study the diagram. Which type of housing is the most (least) popular  in the UK and Belarus? Are semi-detached houses popular in Belarus? Why? Why not?

8. Работа учащихся в группах

T.: I want you to make two small groups and you'll discuss and note down the advantages and disadvantages of living in a semidetached house. Choose the leader in your group. I've got two sheets of paper " advantages" and "disadvantages". The leader, choose a card. (Give students the cards with the words " advantages" and "disadvantages").

9. Рефлексия.

T.: And the last point. Just sum up what new you’ve learnt today. English people love the places they live in. We may see it through variety of proverbs about house and home. Which of the proverbs  do you like best? Tastes differ, as you know. All of you are almost grown up and, I’m sure, you have ideas of the places where you’d prefer to live. What kind of places are they? And now the last question: How do you feel after the lesson? Look at the screen and say what emotions you feel.

10. Домашнее задание.

T.: Put down your homework. Write an e-mail to your pen-friend about your house.

11.  Выставление оценок с комментариями.

T.: You have worked properly today! But our time is up. Your marks for the lesson are as follow.
